If you are of a certain age, the term NSF may take you back to that time when you wrote a check and promptly forgot about it, resulting in the dreaded Non-Sufficient Funds or bounced check. Do not ask how I know this.

But, today, we at Safeguard are celebrating NSF! Our stainless steel based, anti-slip step covers, walkway covers, and ladder rung covers have been Certified by NSF International for use in food and beverage processing.

Food and beverage processing can be quite messy, with lots of spills making floors very slippery and unsafe. At the same time, food and beverage processing people need to keep things super clean and free of bacteria. So anti-slip treatment is essential but it must meet certain standards. Those standards are set by NSF International.

NSF International began in 1944 as the National Sanitation Foundation, developing the first standards for sanitation of soda fountain and luncheonette equipment. To date, they have developed more than 90 public health standards and over 30 protocols for appliances, food equipment, drinking water filters, and other products. Products that meet these standards bear the NSF mark.

Since safety is Safeguard Technology’s number one goal, NSF Certification on our Safeguard® Hi-Traction® stainless steel products makes us twice as happy - safe to use in any environment and, as always, protecting people from slips-and-falls!

US Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics for 2014 (the most recent year published) show that total recordable case rate for hospitals (injury and illness cases per 100 full-time workers) is 6.2. The hospital injury rate is higher than in mining (3.8), hazardous waste treatment and disposal (4.6), and manufacturing (4.0). Now that should set off an alarm for health and safety professionals.

While driving her bus in the greater New Orleans area, our customer, an independent owner/operator, observed her passengers slipping on the bus steps and falling. Very concerned about the children’s safety and the potential for a lawsuit, she needed a solution. An internet search led her to Safeguard Technology.

Our customer was never fond of the original material that covered the bus stairs. Installing Hi-Traction® Covers over the existing rubber provided a significant increase in traction. She was impressed by Safeguard’s responsiveness and willingness to outfit a single bus. She also liked:

  • Color Matching - including industry-standard white nosing
  • Custom Size - no cutting
  • Easy installation
  • Within budget

Problem solved! It is easy to reduce the risk of slips-and-falls and liability.
